Rhuvaal Lighthouse

After a 6 km walk from Bunnahabhain, the lighthouse in its photogenic setting at the north-easterly corner of Islay. The house beneath the lighthouse is actually lived-in, what a remote place to live!

And the very reason the oystercatchers were making such a noise and trying to distract us: an oystercatcher nest with a single egg among the pebbles and shells along the beach

The cliffs at the northern-most part of Islay, including a number of caves for the more adventurous souls ...

This is really the wildest part of Islay, almost totally undisturbed by humans, even considered by Islay standards (an area is crowded if there are more than two people on one mile of coastline ;-)

And another 6 km back to Bunnahabhain giving great view at the Paps of Jura now in the afternoon sun (and some clouds, it's Scotland after all ... ;-)
